A Breakfast Birthday

With only a couple of weeks left until my undergraduate career comes to an end, and before finals are due... it's nice to have fun celebration or break in between. Today was one of them.

My roommate Christine turned 22 today and the roommates threw her a surprise breakfast. The most challenging thing about today was making sure I woke up before Christine (that girl loves to wake up early) and silencing that fire alarm that went off about 3 times when were cooking. ;)

Other than that, we all shared a delicious breakfast together and actually sat on the dining table (something we rarely do). All the food was from Trader Joe's and I am very impressed with their breakfast selection. Please get the potato latkes and the ebelskivers next time you get a chance, they're delicious!

Happy birthday roomie!

Good Eats / 01

April was a month dedicated to good food. I finally ate at places that have been bookmarked for quite a long time, got restaurants recs from my foodie friends, and tried new breakfast dishes.

My favorites this month did not disappoint:
  1. Guisados - If you're indecisive like me, Guisados has a dish for people like you and me - the taco sampler. 6 different kinds of tacos on their one of a kind tortilla. They're fresh and made right on the spot.
  2. The Hart & The Hunter - After hearing so much about their biscuits, I had to try them for myself. It did not disappoint. Each biscuit is warm, light, and fluffy. After you've devoured your share - you just wish there was more. The equally as delicious sides were pimento cheese, honey butter, and blackberries. Yum, yum, and yum. The Eggslut truck is right outside of this restaurant, so if you're looking for a round 2, it's 2 steps away!
  3. The Sycamore Kitchen - Monica introduced this place to me and has been wanting to try it herself as well. Pork belly hash had a description that was incredibly appealing - so we both got it - a bowl of pork belly, crispy fried potatoes, spinach, and two eggs on top. We left full and very happy with our choice.
  4. Dad's Original Banana - After strolling around Balboa Island, our friend insisted that we had to great a frozen banana at Dad's. For $3 a pop, you can get your own chocolate covered banana with any topping you'd like. Ps. They have hand dipped cheesecake too!

Confetti Easter Eggs

Have you ever played with confetti eggs / cascarones? They are so fun! A friend recently suggested them to me and I was able to purchase them at this market (I also heard they might be at Target). A group of us hid these eggs in the backyard and on the count of three, we ran frantically trying to find these eggs and consequently started cracking them on people's heads. Surprisingly, lots of confetti from a tiny eggs poured out, and it made for a pretty photo shoot. I would play with these year-round!
